Germany opens a third call for international hydrogen projects

Germany has opened its third funding call for international renewable hydrogen and derivative projects, with up to EUR 30 million per project. Project outlines are due by 17 December 2026 and execution must be completed by 2030.

The call page, published on 23 September 2026 by Projektträger Jülich, which manages the programme for the Federal Ministry for Economic Affairs and Energy, sets two conditions: plant sites must be outside the European Economic Area and Switzerland, and the applicant must be a company headquartered in the EEA or Switzerland with a permanent establishment in Germany. Selection is due in the second quarter of 2027.

A Brazilian project is eligible as the plant site, not as the applicant. The initial capital comes through the European partner, while the local asset contributes land, grid connection, contracted power and an export route. The shareholding structure now comes before the engineering.

The programme covers feasibility studies, industrial production capacity, conversion into ammonia, methanol or methane, and the associated infrastructure. For a Brazilian project still at study stage, the practical milestone is having the German partner in place before 17 December.
