Siemens and the operating software for GalpH2Park

Siemens will supply operating software for GalpH2Park, Galp's 100 MW electrolysis unit in Sines, Portugal. The 8 October 2026 announcement cites the Hydrogen Performance Suite, built on a digital process twin, and estimates up to 15% energy savings. The plant is designed for up to 15,000 tonnes of renewable hydrogen a year.

The European Investment Bank reported, in a release dated 27 February 2025, a 430 million euro loan to Galp in Sines, of which 180 million goes to the hydrogen unit, whose total investment is 250 million euros.

With 72% of capex covered by EIB credit, returns turn on operating cost, which is where the software comes in: in an asset whose dominant input is electricity, energy savings move the cost per kilo. The 15% is a Siemens estimate, not measured performance.

Sines shows the arrangement that makes electrolysis viable today: a public bank funding the asset and digital optimisation chasing opex. The next figure that matters is the verified cost per kilo in the first months of operation.
