Eco Invest Brasil: BRL 181 billion of demand and BRL 4.55 billion for batteries

In Eco Invest Brasil's fifth auction, approved on October 7, demand of R$ 181.3 billion came in more than three times the R$ 49.95 billion approved for six value chains. Batteries and storage received R$ 4.55 billion. Cheranna Energy, in a post by Sueli Ribeiro, argues capital is only the start and the challenge is turning priorities into bankable projects.

The auction figures support the point. Public capital totals R$ 13.2 billion, R$ 9 billion for innovation funds and R$ 4.2 billion for corporate credit, with leverage of about 3.8 times. Bradesco, HSBC, Itaú and Santander were selected.

Timing matters. Capacity reserve auctions with batteries are set for December 2 and 4, 2026, with 15-year contracts and supply from August 1, 2028. A project financed now goes through almost two years of construction and waiting before first revenue.

Credit for this asset needs a grace period matching that gap. Available money solves half the problem. The other half is time.
