South Korea led global hydrogen car sales in the first half of 2026, according to SNE Research. Against that backdrop, Hyundai announced 50,262 hydrogen vehicles sold over 13 years, reaching 10,000 in 2020, 20,000 in 2022 and 30,000 in 2023, mostly the Nexo, launched in 2018.

The network grew alongside. According to the US International Trade Administration, in a September 2025 analysis, Korea went from 250 stations in 2024 to about 400 in early 2025, targeting more than 450 stations and 200,000 hydrogen vehicles by 2030.

The long-term bill sits in operating those stations. Keeping them open is a continuous cost, and revenue depends on volume dispensed at each one. Outside Korea usage is lower: the report notes a 54.4% drop in Chinese sales in the half year and 14 units sold in Europe.

Hyundai's milestone shows what happens when fleet and network grow together. The next step is a network that pays for itself through use.
