Gritt's robots on US solar construction sites

California-based Gritt Robotics says it has deployed its robotic construction systems at solar sites run by EPC Burns & McDonnell. According to the company, its work with three top-10 US solar EPCs targets about 6 million panels in two years, roughly 2.8 GW, using commercial machines retrofitted with AI control.

The problem it targets is measured. In the National Solar Jobs Census covering 2024, published by IREC in November 2025, 27% of installation and development firms said hiring was very difficult, down from 33% in 2023.

For EPC buyers, automation swaps part of the labor risk for equipment, software and vendor support risk. The article gives no productivity figures, and the 2.8 GW is a company target.

If the gains do not arrive on schedule, the delay returns to the site. The robot is best treated as part of the execution plan, with field-measured indicators and a backup crew defined in the contract.
