Toyota's mobile hydrogen refuelling in California
Toyota has installed two mobile hydrogen fuelers at its North American Parts Center California, its largest US parts distribution facility. Heavy-duty trucks refuel in about eight minutes for a range of up to 450 miles. A permanent station is planned at the same site.
DC Velocity's 21 October 2026 report adds that the station will first serve trucks commissioned through Hyroad Energy, hauling freight from the Port of Los Angeles to Ontario, and that Toyota-powered trucks are expected in commercial operation in 2027. The report does not give a timeline for the permanent station or say who operates and maintains the mobile units.
In hydrogen fleets, station uptime defines the operation. A truck idled by a fueling fault means lost freight, and the station maintenance contract matters as much as the price per kilo.
The mobile setup lets operations start before fixed works and reveals the real usage profile. Anyone planning a hydrogen fleet should settle early who is responsible for maintenance and with what repair time.
