Chifeng bunkers a ship, but the Marubeni deal still has no volume
Hydrogen Insight reports that Terra Clove, Eastern Pacific Shipping's dual-fuel vessel, was bunkered with ammonia from Envision Energy's Chifeng project, which the outlet describes as 500 MW, and presents it as the first ammonia-fuelled Very Large Ammonia Carrier.
Revenue for this product has an earlier contract. On 3 June 2025 Envision announced a green ammonia offtake agreement with Marubeni, one of Japan's five major trading houses, with reference to Japan and Asia-Pacific. The release cites Chifeng's initial phase at 300,000 tonnes a year and 1.5 million at completion, but does not state the contract's volume or term.
Bunkering a ship shows the product reaches the tank. What supports expansion to 1.5 million tonnes is the share sold with defined term and price. Without those terms public, the Marubeni deal reads as a demand signal, not as measured revenue.
The bunkering adds a possible buyer, shipping, alongside the trading house. Each use that becomes a long-term contract makes Chifeng's next phase more bankable.
