Three MAN fuel-cell trucks in the Bayernflotte

MAN has put three fuel-cell trucks into regular logistics operation in southern Germany, in the Bayernflotte project. They are vehicles of up to 42 tonnes gross combination weight, with a Bosch fuel-cell system, 36 kg of hydrogen in 700 bar tanks and a range of 450 to 500 km, according to the company's statement of 31 July 2026.

The upfront cost does not sit with the operator: the project is funded by Bavaria's State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Regional Development and Energy, and LoadFox runs the trucks on routes between MAN's Munich, Dachau and Nuremberg sites for three months.

The figure that decides the business case is consumption, about 7 to 8 kg per 100 km in the same statement. With 36 kg on board the stated range holds, and cost per kilometre then depends on the price at the pump.

The upfront investment comes from a public programme and the trial measures consumption and availability on real routes. That result is what will tell whether the numbers work once the funding leaves the equation.
