Primary Hydrogen in Ontario and the rule that licenses the subsurface
Primary Hydrogen Corp. staked 313 contiguous single-cell mining claims, about 65 km², in the Thunder Bay Mining District of northwestern Ontario, adjoining the Seagull property, where a joint venture is drilling for natural hydrogen and helium. The announcement is dated August 24, 2026.
What is left out is who pays for the programme. Ontario Regulation 65/18 under the Mining Act requires C$400 of assessment work per cell per year to keep each claim in good standing, and the release itself states that the private placement closed on July 8, 2026 raised C$1,465,742 gross.
The account has two sides. The initial work is data compilation and structural targeting, a low-cost stage that draws on more than 20,000 metres of historical drilling already paid for by others, in a road-accessible district. Taking ground next to a live discovery buys a cheap option; drilling to 1,400 metres is another order of magnitude.
The asset here is the option on a neighbouring target under test, and what converts it into value is the next financing.
