Shenhai Hydrogen Energy No. 1 goes to testing
Shenhai Hydrogen Energy No. 1 has moved from the shipyard to testing. Launched on 13 October in Jiangmen, Guangdong, by CIMC Raffles, which presents it as the world's first semi-submersible platform producing hydrogen from wind, it has already completed onshore commissioning of its process systems.
Baird Maritime, on 22 October 2026, details the next stage: 1,000 Nm³/h-class PEM electrolysis, three types of hydrogen storage, grid-connected or off-grid operation, and marine adaptability tests in the South China Sea. The report gives no wind capacity, output figure or start date for operation.
This is a demonstration asset. There is no date yet for first revenue, and what is being validated now is whether electrolyser and storage can withstand the sea. That is the missing data point for anyone considering hydrogen production far from shore.
The company says it is the first project of its kind in China to hold China Classification Society classification and statutory maritime inspection. That gives the test a technical basis. Results at sea will show whether the format can scale.
