500 hydrogen buses in Incheon

About 500 hydrogen buses run in Incheon, the Korean city with the largest such fleet, according to a Dong-A Science report reposted by Klaus Steven. The article follows Hyundai's hydrogen mobility into logistics trucks, trams and vessels, and cites an expected cut of 70 tonnes of greenhouse gases per truck per year.

The state funds the start. According to a market analysis by the US International Trade Administration of 30 September 2025, Korean subsidies cover 11,000 hydrogen cars and 2,000 hydrogen buses, the network had about 400 stations in early 2025 and the target is 200,000 vehicles by 2030.

Incheon shows another piece of the model: the pioneering operator built a station that produces hydrogen on site by reforming natural gas, integrating fleet and fuel.

For other markets, the lesson is about sequence. Public subsidy opens the fleet, and those who control refuelling stand to gain more when scale arrives.
