Paraná logs 750,000 outages as grid reinforcement waits for the tariff cycle
On 22 September, the peak reached 257,900 consumer units without power in Paraná. On 3 and 4 October, it hit 325,000. On 2 November, more than 200,000 were affected. The Canal Solar survey, based on reports from Copel and Civil Defence, adds up to more than 750,000 outages in six weeks, counting peaks rather than distinct properties.
Rebuilding runs through the tariff rule. In the periodic review approved by ANEEL on 24 June 2026, with an average effect of 20.51%, Copel's net remuneration base was set at R$ 19.94 billion, with the investments of the previous five years recognised, according to Cenário Energia.
Copel plans R$ 13.4 billion for distribution between 2026 and 2030. Under the cycle's logic, investment made between reviews enters the base when it is assessed at the following review. Until then, it comes out of the distributor's cash.
For consumers, the article points to hybrid solar systems with batteries, which keep selected loads running when the grid goes down. Strengthening the grid runs on a tariff cycle timeline. Protecting critical load can be decided now.
