Electrolyser factories total 58 GW a year for less than 5 GW produced
Green hydrogen depends on electrolysers, almost always of an established architecture. Evo Hydrogen, in a post by Marcelo Bezerra, proposes an electrolysis it calls resonant, without membranes, with tubular modules and Brazilian suppliers. The infographic compares the proposal with PEM and alkaline in qualitative terms only.
The supply contest is real. According to Argus Media, on 19/6/2026, the IEA estimates global electrolyser manufacturing capacity at close to 58 GW a year at the end of 2025, against less than 5 GW produced, with 60% of that capacity in China. Chinese systems installed in China cost USD 500 to 1,100 per kW in 2025, against USD 1,900 to 2,500 for those made outside the country.
With so much idle manufacturing, scale alone differentiates no one. A domestic supply chain reduces dependence on a dominant supplier and on the exchange rate, provided it reaches a comparable cost per kilogram of hydrogen. That is measured with published operating hours and efficiency.
A new architecture can open space in a concentrated market. Field results are the next milestone that counts.
