Terra Clove bunkers green ammonia while IMO delays the rule
In February 2026, Envision made its first commercial green ammonia shipment, from Chifeng, China, to LOTTE Fine Chemical at Ulsan, South Korea. Now, according to a release of 3 November 2026, that ammonia fuelled Terra Clove, owned by Eastern Pacific Shipping, built by HD Hyundai Heavy Industries and presented as the first VLAC with dual-fuel ammonia propulsion.
Envision reports 320,000 tonnes a year at Chifeng, planned capacity of 1.52 million and compliance with RFNBO and ISCC. The vessel also runs on conventional fuel.
The rule that would price that choice is still under negotiation. According to DNV, on 4 May 2026, IMO's MEPC 84 set two intersessional meetings on the Net-Zero Framework without an adoption timeline. The session meant to adopt it was adjourned in October 2025, and MEPC 85 is scheduled for November 2026.
For the shipowner, the dual-fuel engine reduces exposure to that timeline. For the producer, the bunkering proves the physical chain, from plant to tank. Contracted volume will follow what IMO decides.
